Free Lettering Practice Guides for Procreate | Join the Lettering Library
If you haven’t already you should totally join the Lettering Library we have here at Holly Pixels. In the past we used to send out random freebies. But it made more sense for us to put them into a password protected library. This way everything is one spot and you only have to login when you want to grab things.
New Lettering Practice Guides
I believe that the slow and steady wins the race. When it comes to lettering this is the same. People expect overnight success with just about everything but life doesn’t work that way.
Taking your time to be slow and consistent will get you much further. So I am introducing new Lettering Practice Guides for our Lettering Library that will help you achieve that.
Each month I’ll release a new alphabet set of words in a few lettering styles I like to use to help you get better at lettering.
You can download either the PDF version for print and brush pens. Or you can download the .PROCREATE file to import (via the gallery section of Procreate and clicking the + sign). This Procreate file has a blank layer above so you can easily letter on top of each word as you practice and get better!
August Letter A
The first month we start this is August so you’re getting the letter A. I didn’t plan that, it just happened. 🙂
The brush I use in Procreate is my Mono SVG found in my Creative Light set if you’re interested.
Come back each month for a new letter to practice!

August Lettering Challenge and Illustration Challenge #hollypixels
Every month I host a new lettering challenge and this month we’re bringing in Illustration to the challenge as well! Each month I post new prompts to encourage you to get more consistent with your lettering and drawing. Challenge prompts can help you improve.
How It Works
- This is a weekly challenge this month – the numbers coordinate with the week number. Post any time during that week on the calendar
- Use the prompt as inspiration: you can draw something from it, letter a quote based on it, or just simply letter the word(s)
- Then, post your image to Instagram and use the hashtag #hollypixels (this used to be the #letterpixels challenge) and we’ll check it out!

Feel free to screenshot this graphic and post it on Instagram and tag me at @hollypixels to spread the word!

I did skip over how to install brushes/export brushes in this video because I think it needs to be its own video! So watch for that to come.

Glowforge Pro Unboxing | Glowforge Laser Cutter
In today’s post and video I’m going to be showing you the Glowforge Pro Unboxing and setup. We recently purchased this laser cutter for a separate entity of my business that doesn’t have much to do with Holly Pixels. But, I wanted to showcase it here to show you ways you can turn your lettering into a business.
We’ll simply be opening the box, setting up the machine and doing a few demos that come with it. Later on this year I will be showing you lettering projects from start to finish using Procreate, cleanup in Illustrator and then the final lettering project cut with the Glowforge.

What is a Glowforge?
Glowforge is a wireless 3D laser printer that fits on your desktop, works with your favorite design programs, and stores your designs & data on a cloud.
The Glowforge laster printer (or cutter) will cut wood, acrylic, leather and more. It’s going to be a more advanced cutting system than the Cricut or Silhouette.
What Are the Glowforge Models?
Glowforge has three models available, a Basic, a Plus and a Pro. We purchased the Pro. And, the reason is that we simply wanted that ability to print faster and have the passthrough slot option for longer pieces. You can do so much with the basic like cut out signs and more.
The Glowforge Pro is the same size as the Basic and Plus but can print enormous objects with the Pro Passthrough slot, and has upgraded cooling for all-day use. It also features upgraded components and increased laser power to print up to 20% faster than the Basic, and has double the warranty. Class 4 laser product.
More power and speed. The Plus offers upgraded components and increased laser power to print up to 20% faster than the Basic, and has double the warranty. Class 1 laser product.
This model has a Class 1 laser and the basic components to it. The warranty is a 6 month warranty.

Pricing of a Glowforge
The Pro model runs $5995. The Plus model runs $3995. The Basic model runs $2495. This is really affordable compared to many laser cutting machines on the market that start at over $10,000. The machine is smaller than most laser machines and won’t take up a lot of space in your home or office, making it attractive for the home-based business.
- Draftwood starts at $4.00 fo 12 x 20 1/8″
- Hardwood finishes start at $7.00 for 6 x 12 1/8″
- Acrylic starts at $9.50 for 12 x 20 1/8″
- Unfinished leather starts at $9.00 for 5 x 10
Remember, you don’t have to use these materials from Glowforge. I order from Canal Plastics and some local shops. You do need to make sure to carefully place masking tape that you can purchase here* on them so it protects the materials if it doesn’t come with it. Glowforge comes with tape and is ready to use. However, I have not found acrylic pricing any cheaper anywhere else than Glowforge!
Glowforge software doesn’t allow you to design within it. But you can use SVG files from Etsy or that you make on your own using software like Adobe Illustrator. Plus, Glowforge does sell project files to use in their store. They provide support via their forums for owners of Glowforge.
Save Up to $500 on a Glowforge
If you want to purchase a Glowforge you can save money with my link. I get the same amount as your referral discount when you purchase through my link as a way for Glowforge to thank me for telling you about it. Click here to purchase*. You can save $500 off a Pro, $250 off a Plus, or $100 off a Basic
Stay tuned for projects from my lettering in Procreate that I’ll showcase on the Glowforge!
