Draw With Me and Talk About Bullies + Screen Protectors

I wanted to do something a little different this week in my draw with me. We're doing the first prompt in the #hollyween challenge over on Instagram that I host. So while I draw my fall leaves in Procreate I wanted to talk to you about a few topics that I knew needed to be covered but would be boring if it was just me talking about them.

How do you pick your color palette? Do you have set colors you reuse in every piece or do you pick new ones each time?

    • Holly McCaig on October 5, 2018 at 10:13 am

My color palette is my branding colors. I use the same palette all of the time for my work I show on Instagram and in my business as it’s my brand recognition and cohesive for me. If I were working for someone else I’d study other palette combinations for those pieces. You can find color palettes online like on Pinterest, or you can use photographs to inspire you to pick colors. I always pick a dark and light version of a color for shadows.

Hey holly I love your videos! I want to draw because I think it’s fun and relaxing but I suck hahha, any special tips? Or is it just practice?

    • Holly McCaig on October 5, 2018 at 5:25 pm

Some people have it in their blood. Some don’t. Some have to really work at it. So I can only suggest practice. Start small. In school, we had to draw a gum-ball machine 100 different ways. We took a sheet of paper and divided it into 100 little squares. It really made your mind think about all the directions, zooms etc. you could do with it.

Hi Holly! I have been waiting to get an iPad Pro like forever! I was going to buy one, however I decided to wait since “there was going to be a new one soon”… phew, I should just buy one already! I save all your videos in my playlist so when I get it, I learn some tricks from you! You have been an inspiration for me!! thank you so much for teaching us!!

I hope your mom, if i’m not mistaken, get’s better with time! Send you a lot of hugs!!!

Even if you can’t get an iPad Pro try the newer version that works with Apple Pencil that came out this year. It’s not as robust but it will still let you draw in it. Thank you – it’s my grandmother. She’s 88.

Loved this video so much! I have started using your tips for coloring my doodles on a separate layer and it works so well! I always enjoy watching you draw/letter and seeing your process has really helped me. I’m participating in the Hollyween challenge this month! What fun! I’m even older than you so I can relate to drawing and lettering in the evening! Much better on the hands! ❤️
