Using Procreate
I use Procreate 5 in this tutorial. The latest version that is using my iPad Pro Gen 3 and Apple Pencil 2. These are my go-to pieces of equipment and software for lettering. I love how I can adjust streamline of my brushes in Procreate to make my lettering and drawing less jittery. These days, my hands need all the help they can get.
But you can use pretty much any iPad and stylus that is compatible with Procreate. Just check the Procreate website FAQ for compatibility.
Finding a Great Photo
I am using this photo from Unsplash.com in this Procreate tutorial where I show you interlacing text. But you can use any photo.
I recommend photos that
- have a lot of space around the subject.
- I also prefer my subject to have some movement so I have lots of areas to swirl and twirl my lettering around.
- You may have to play with different photos to really figure it out to start. Use the one I used if you need practice.
