Vectoring on the iPad and Image Trace in Vectornator with Holly Pixels

How do I vector on the iPad? I do get that question a lot. And, I typically respond with what I use, which isn't on the iPad. I wanted to take a little time to show you ways you can vector on your iPad so you can make an informed decision to choose what's best for your needs.

Watch My Video on How to Vector on the iPad

I put together an extensive video for you on vectoring on the iPad. I do still prefer to use Adobe Illustrator on my Mac, and I cannot wait for the new Adobe Illustrator App for iPad to come out in 2020! But, not everyone can afford Adobe, nor do they have a computer. So this video will give you a few options to vector using your iPad.

Bonus Method

So. There is another way.
  • You can download the app The Image Converter. It’s a 9.99 yearly subscription.
  • Then convert your image to SVG. Save it to your Files, I did DropBox.
  • Go to the Files App and press and hold on the file, choose copy.
  • Next open Affinity Designer (another paid app) and new canvas (I tried this with other vector apps and it wouldn’t paste the SVG – I hate how Affinity doesn’t let you use the multitasking feature with files app to the side – grrrr!)
  • Press and hold on canvas and paste.

This then allows you to use your direct selection tool to tweak points and alter your file. You can then export as multiple file types. However, I couldn’t do it with a large painted piece or photograph. It worked best with lettering – flat pieces.

I wanted to share that. It’s still costing you, and it’s a real round about way, but it works. I can do a video on that a little later.

Thanks Holly. Your voice is so good for tutorials. You speak so easily and clearly. And you are SOOOO human. :):) Your videos are informative, very helpful. (you know, there are some bad ones out there. They may even have good information but echos and lighting and foreign accents make them IMPOSSIBLE to understand).

And I so appreciate the fact that your teaching videos are by and large free. I READ thru an email ad the other day regarding lettering and, in the end, she wanted $154.00. Like it’s nothing!! That’s a terribly lot of money for lessons. With no free “test” tutorial. How do I know the woman can teach, or even be understood! Unbelieve-able. Gotta remember competition is Linda.com and Skillshare…

Anyway, just wanted to let you know you are very appreciated! God Bless,
    Kaye
